My hair journey has been a long one to say the least. I started messing with my hair as soon as I turned fifteen. Due to my Cuban background and VERY traditional parents, I was not allowed to dye my hair until after my 15th birthday. Leave me a comment if you can relate, haha.
I first started with the typical highlights, something basic ya know. I did not stop with the highlights until my hair was pretty much blonde all around. From there I went from blonde to brunette for a couple of years, but things got interesting in my twenties. I did every color you can probably think of. Some I don't even have pictures of.
You know that feeling of instant regret after you do something, then quickly cover it up with something else? Well I did that for most of my funky hair colors. As soon as the color was in, the instant regret kicked in, and black hair dye to the rescue. Please don't do that! It is so bad for your hair and trust me, I learned the hard way.
I eventually burned my hair off and had to cut it VERY SHORT! I cried. I hated having short hair. It was not me at all. Thankfully when all of this happened, short hair was totally in. Everyone was cutting their hair short, which ended up working in my favor. I'll insert pictures for reference ;)
Anyways, the past two years I have been on a journey to grow out my hair. I always get so many questions on my color, cut, and products I use so I thought I would share. I am even going to include my hair washing schedule. Here we go:
+ Color: Light Brown Balayage on my natural base. I ask for something very subtle! I tell my hair dresser I want to still be a brunette, but with dimension. I get my color retouched every 3-6 months depending on the brassiness.
+ Extensions: I use the Luxy Hair Extensions in the color Dark Ash Brown Balayage.
+ Cut: I ask for long front layers in the front without touching the back. This way I get to preserve my length. I get my hair cut every 3 months!
+ Shampoo & Conditioner: I have been using the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner and I love it! It is super inexpensive and it doesn't have any harsh chemicals.
+ Treatments: I apply the Shea Moisture 100% Argon Oil to the roots and ends of my hair for about 1 hour before washing my hair. Once in the shower, I apply this Silicon Mix and then rinse out after 5 minutes. I do the oil twice a week and the mask only once a week. For styling and heat protecting I use this styling cream from Shea Moisture that I love and then I mix in a little of the Olaplex Hair Bonding Oil.
+ Hair Washing: I wash my hair once to twice a week. It depends if I have any special occasion or shoot planned. If I am having a slow week then I try to only wash my hair once. My hair washing days are Monday's and Thursday's.
